two movies, no endings

friday was totally a two movie night. i'm sick as a dog and liz is a working machine, so we earned it. first up was Dreamland, a sleepy, relaxed, indie drama about a girl, her dad and her best friend with MS living in a very small trailer park in new mexico. she just graduated from high school and is thinking about college and poetry, but her dad's a drunk mess over the death of his wife and her friend's MS will only get worse. in comes justin long, looking cute and shirtless. he starts dating the friend but falls in love with our hero and choices have to be made. it doesn't really end because nothing much happens to start with.

mostly i learned that it would be really sweet to just live in the desert. the sky's so open and amazing. chicago really sucks about blue skies and it's a little rough.

then, on to cirque du freak: the vampire's assistant. i got this movie because it got good reviews, it looked pretty awesome and it's based on a YA series which i now want to read. it's about two dude friends, one of whom is perfect and the other is a whiny twat. they go to a freak show and john c. reilly is a vampire. he makes the perfect one half vampire and on and on. a lot happens, but it's totally set up for a sequel or three, so still no ending.

but, john c. reilly is totally amazing. he's scary and comical at the same time. he almost looks hot at one point. and, he's mastered the world-weary vampire attitude and the slightly old-fashioned talking. these are two things that stephanie meyers wanted to have in the twilight books, but because she's a bad writer, she totally failed. i wonder if the books are written that well or if it's the script. i'm totally finding out!

  1. that vampire movie came out right before i left the videostore. if i still worked there, i would've rented it by now. so now i have a list: adventureland, zombieland, CDF. this blog is getting the ball rolling. do you watch movies in the daytime a lot? it will get easier when the jobless roommate moves out and one with a dayjob movies in.
