guaranteed love

i watched the great movie TiMER a while ago, but i wasn't on the blog at that time and my sister's watching it now and reminding me of how totally great it is. i'm worried about talking it up too much, but i don't think it's possible because the people are so cute, heavy on the boys.

the premise is that 15 years ago scientists invented a little clock that goes on your wrist and counts down to the day you'll meet the love of your life. i said it's kind of like inception in that it sets up our reality but with something totally science fiction and develops and explores that reality which allows us to look at our society from a safe, critical distance. liz pointed out that it's more like the history of lying, which might be true. either way, it's a touching, sometimes hot, often funny story about looking for love and not giving up. plus, as i told you, the lead woman is 37 and the guy is 23, which i just love.

it's on instant, watch it!

i'll take the low road

man, the road is a sickeningly dark and depressing movie. i was writing a stupid essay about why i want to teach elementary school, getting mad at the internet and the dvd was skipping and it was still horrible and made me feel sick.

have you seen it? have you read it? i haven't read any carson mcculler, or whatever the author's name is. i feel like i had never heard of him before the kz and now he's everywhere.

it's a dark future movie where a flash happened and pretty much everything in earth stopped growing. so a guy and his son are working their way south in the foodless, cold, dark wasteland of america where plenty of people want to kill them. i had ideas about the movie like that the kid couldn't walk and that the dad made a bullet out of wood because he was out of bullets, but those things didn't seem to be in the movie. maybe the book?

so, i can't decide if it's good or not, but it's serious shit. liz and i couldn't figure out how it would end because it was clearly not ending well. the ending wasn't good but not the worst. dark shit.

those boys are welcome in my dreams

inception really was totally amazing. i just heard the review on fresh air yesterday and that guy didn't like it but he can suck it. it was magical and exciting and violent and fucking joseph gordon levatte does crazy things to my soul. i really loved when he was floating around in zero gravity. i just love the way he moves.

the ladies in it were also totally amazing with ellen page nosey as all hell and hot frenchy as a total evil badass. i know you'll see it, so i won't go into it too much, but to say that it was lovely and if i was in the kz, i would watch it every day for a month.

the good guy?

i got this movie because it was suppose to be funny and because it has jason street from friday night lights. mostly for jason. he can walk in this one, and it's not strange. you don't see him walking much.

so, this most was a little tricky. see, it starts with jason being all pathetic and sad and upset because his girlfriend's with a different guy. then it goes back six weeks. in those weeks, jason seems like a really great boyfriend narrator who loves his new girlfriend and is standing up for the new guy at work. but, we slowly find out that he's a cheating, baby asshole, but we trusted him because the story was told by his point of view. shit's tricky like that.

drunk history

i know you don't drink, so i was wondering if you think drunk people are funny? or just annoying? i like that these people aren't just drunk but really, really drunk, and i like how hard they try. i like the run-a-race-after-shootin-yr-foot aspect. i like the reenactments. i like drunk history. these two are my favorites. there's another jen kirkman one that is great. jen kirkman calls into my favorite radio show, the best show on wfmu, a lot, but i've never seen her in anything but drunk history. i wonder if she's a funny comedian.

tv is better than movies sometimes

the trailer doesn't show any acting, and i think that's on purpose. the acting really really especially in a very special way sucks in this movie. why don't i hate it? the special effects were pretty sweet, and the whole set up is nice. plus, the waterbender girl wasn't bad.

the story is that the world is divided into four nations: air, water, earth and fire. it seems like each nation has a few tribes. each tribe has element benders who can manipulate the element. they were peaceful with each other and there was always one among them, the avatar, who could bend all four elements. this is totally whoa! so there hasn't been an avatar for 100 years when the movie starts. during this time, shit has hit the fan. the fire tribe got word that the next avatar was supposed to be born in the air tribe, so they fuckin killed all the air people. except the one air bender avatar kid ran away from home into an iceberg and then he fell asleep for 100 years. he has an awesome flying 6-legged bison any kid would envy, bending or no bending. but then he shows up in water land and this brother/sister pair discover him. but oh no the fire tribe realizes he's alive too and shit hits a bigger fan than before. the acting is so bad, it's unbelievable. the directing is awful too, but still, i enjoyed the movie. and it's the first of three, i think.

this all comes from the nickelodeon tv show. i'm not sure if it was a comicbook or if it comes from another country or something, the original story. anyway, the cartoon is totally sweet. it's on instant and i recommend it. it has the same mythology and you can sort of see the origins of why the acting is bad or the dialogue is awkward but in the show it works.

here's a way sped up version:

and here's a smartass version:

what nerds people can be.

i'm so psyched to have a new series! and a cartoon! hooray. also, i want mosquitoes eradicated. i want that!
