so, i wanted to lay in bed and watch a movie this morning and i picked murphy's romance because i really love james garner. it's a movie where recently divorced sally field and her young son corey haim, didn't even realize that, move from CA to maybe Wyoming and she opens a horse boarding and training place.
she's getting to know much older, local, mild radical james garner when her ex come around and moves in because he's broke. she doesn't sleep with either but has them both around until she decided to kick out her husband, although he leave on his own because it turns out he has new twin sons, and she finally makes out with james garner, who's 27 years older than her.
first of all, she's supposed to be 33, but she seems old.
second, james garner won't tell her his age, like a lady.
third, they had awful music in movies in the 80s. i mean really bad stuff.
this movie didn't help me decide if i can date an older man, but i did feel uncomfortable almost the whole movie.

mooooon and niiiiiine
so, i kind of remembered what you wrote about moon, but mostly i seemed to remember that it was slow and then things happened right before the end. but, that's not really what you said. you did say that it's slow, which i agree with and liked. i think the sams were facing some serious stuff and it's good that it was slow and you could see him trying to processes it all.
the cartoon 9 is kind of like moon in that you don't really know how it ends. only 9 is bleaker. and it's pretty scary because there are these evil robots and they're out to kill and do kill. mostly i learned not to fuck with robots.
maybe i'm just not ever happy with endings these days.

maybe too clever?
the invention of lying was pretty good. it has all kinds of famous people in and, of course, tina fey is the best. it's funny to hear what people would say if they couldn't lie. i also liked the explanation of why god and heaven are around. but, it could have been funnier. maybe it was just too real.
alice in whateverland
Tim Burton didn't really outdo himself this time.
Sometimes Johnny Depp aka the Mad Hatter, who was sorely misused in this movie, had a Scottish accent. I've never read the book. I wonder if that's in there. Helena Bonham Carter just f'd the whole part of the Red Queen up. I can't blame everything about hating her in this movie on the weird, big CGI head, most of it was how unentertainingly bratty she acted. The Alice girl was alright. The NYT reviewer didn't like her, but I liked her. Alan Rickman was the voice of the caterpillar, I could listen to him read the baseball scores, I love him so much. I tend to not think about celebrities in very sexual ways but I have totally had a sex dream about Alan Rickman. I wouldn't say no to another. Anne Hathaway was pretty cute. A kid I grew up with is dating her personal assistant. So that's like four degrees, right?
The story with this movie is that something bad happened in the past-the-rabbit-hole world so Alice has to defeat to Jabberwocky again. It's vague. And, again, I'm unclear if this is an update or in the actual book. No walrus and clam story in this one. I assumed this would be a rehash of the Disney story. Was that so wrong to want? I also loved the live action one that was on PBS when we were kids. I would've taken something like that. Maybe this was like that. My memory is terrible.
The 3D was pretty nice. I like 3D. I like when bugs or butterflies are involved, although fish and fog are nice too. I hate CGI in general. I hated the new Jabberwocky and HBC's head. But I liked the rabbits and the mouse and the caterpillar and the cat.
I'm not sorry I went to the Cinemagic (such a great name for a movie theater, er chain of movie theaters) to see this movie yesterday. It was all part of the lazy Sunday plan. It was really entertaining while I was watching it and now it's entertaining to hate on it in this blog.

george hamilton pretan
my one and only you was pretty great. it's the story of george hamilton's early life. he had a band leader father and a southern mother. and the mother leaves the father because he sleeps around all the time. she drives across the country looking for a new husband.
george has a totally fab gay half brother and i loved that it wasn't a big deal. and the kid who plays george is real cute. he's percy jackson in that new movie which i can't wait to see. there were a couple of mean things other people said about him, but his mom and brother really loved him and it was the 50s. i'm ready for a road trip!

two movies, no endings
friday was totally a two movie night. i'm sick as a dog and liz is a working machine, so we earned it. first up was Dreamland, a sleepy, relaxed, indie drama about a girl, her dad and her best friend with MS living in a very small trailer park in new mexico. she just graduated from high school and is thinking about college and poetry, but her dad's a drunk mess over the death of his wife and her friend's MS will only get worse. in comes justin long, looking cute and shirtless. he starts dating the friend but falls in love with our hero and choices have to be made. it doesn't really end because nothing much happens to start with.
mostly i learned that it would be really sweet to just live in the desert. the sky's so open and amazing. chicago really sucks about blue skies and it's a little rough.
then, on to cirque du freak: the vampire's assistant. i got this movie because it got good reviews, it looked pretty awesome and it's based on a YA series which i now want to read. it's about two dude friends, one of whom is perfect and the other is a whiny twat. they go to a freak show and john c. reilly is a vampire. he makes the perfect one half vampire and on and on. a lot happens, but it's totally set up for a sequel or three, so still no ending.
but, john c. reilly is totally amazing. he's scary and comical at the same time. he almost looks hot at one point. and, he's mastered the world-weary vampire attitude and the slightly old-fashioned talking. these are two things that stephanie meyers wanted to have in the twilight books, but because she's a bad writer, she totally failed. i wonder if the books are written that well or if it's the script. i'm totally finding out!

gentlemen?
Gentlemen Broncos didn't get the best reviews, bug i'm going to give it a good one. it's by the guys who did napoleon dynamite, and it's not as good as that, but it does have plenty of ugly america. like, backwards fashion like men with perms, ugly glasses and sweatshirts. pretty much your average hipster right now.
it also has jemaine as a science fiction writer and he's amazing. the kid who plays the lead is familiar, but it just seems like he's been in everything for a long time, but nothing stood out.
anyway, it has all the good stuff like standing up for yourself and those you love, living your dreams, making art all the time, finding love and snake diarrhea, which is really gross. i'm not saying it couldn't have been better, but i am saying it was pretty good.

fuck you movie
so, i don't really think post grad earned such a strong title, but it really wasn't good. one star bad. it wasn't even bad, it was just boring and about five, unoriginal movies rolled into one lame movie. it's about a girl who graduates from college and thinks she has her life all planned out but don't get her dream job and then can't get any job. she moves home with her wacky family, jane lynch included, makes out with her hot Brazilian neighbor and breaks her best friend's heart.
i got this movie because i love romantic comedies and because it had matt sarason from friday night lights. he was great, for the part he had. it stars the gilmore girls daughter and it makes me really glad i never watched that show. she's just a wet noodle.

zombieland vs adventureland
the both have land in the title and star the same guy. they're both goofy and about growing up. they're both good, but zombieland is better. although, it might not be as well planned and plotwise, adventureland wins. but, for memorable lines, it's zombieland all the way. you really have to watch both and let me know.

the hot autism
liz and i had a two movie night. we started with she's the man, which is a teen comedy take on twelfth night. it's good, i had it in the kz and i've seen it a lot. it has vinnie jones and david cross and they're great. and channing tatum takes his shirt off a lot, which i like.
then we watched Adam, which we've had for a month but the Olympics stopped me from watching movies. it's a romance about a guy with aspergers. it's really sweet and quiet and interesting to watch. i wasn't sure what would happen and i liked finding out.
the guy who plays adam is now married to claire danes and i think he looks a lot like billy crudup and he left his pregnant girlfriend for claire. so, she totally has a type, huh?
SPOILER:
they don't get back together in the end, which really bothers me and made my sister really happy. i just feel reassured by happy endings, i know that plenty of endings aren't happy.

movies named after 80s songs
did you think of one? so, i watched my best friend's girl with dane cook. i've never seen his stand up, but now i know that he has a really hot body and a scared up face, which works for him.
I got this movie because i saw a preview and i'm always looking for a new romantic comedy. this one was a dude comedy with boobs and sex jokes. the plot is that dane cook is hired by guys who get dumped to take their girlfriends out on a horrible date so the girl will come running back. and, he's amazing at it. his best friend gets dumped by kate hudson, but dane falls in love with her. and, alec bladwin is his women studies professor/womanizing father.
the ending was really horrible, the movie wasn't so bad. like i said, dane has a hot body, kate hudson's character is funny and smart and there are some really great jokes. they're dirty but great. at one point, dane cook is peeing into a cactus.
maybe i just have low standards.

buffy the hours-pire slayer (or, welcome to sunnydale, say hello to vampires, say goodbye to yr social life)
first it was twin peaks, then the wire, and now buffy the vampire slayer has totally taken over my house. i'm almost done with season 3, ann (the owner of the whole series and an amazing dog who can speak and jump through hoola hoops on command named sadie) and ezra are on season 5, and xander's always behind at the beginning of season 3. i'm taking a hiatus while xander catches up, because it is more fun to watch with someone else. so, that's why i have so much time to blog: the hiatus.
so, i'm crazy about this show. everything every superfan says about it is true: witty, clever, dorky dialogue, emotionally realistic teenagers (my favorite is the werewolf boy who is really sensitive and reasonable and cool, like when his gf gets caught making out with her childhood best friend after the gf and chbf were kidnapped by vampires, he breaks up with her but eventually decides that if she wants to try again so does he. it's so rad and awesome and right on that he's all supercool and plays in a band and loves his confused gf but then becomes a werewolf so they have to lock him in the book cage in the library during full moons <-- not butts, actual full moons. i keep making "full moon" butt jokes lately. no one laughs. ever.), more subtext about sexuality and growth than I can sometimes handle, fun 90s tights/sneakers combos, great bitchy girls, frustrating moms and demons! it's totally feminist and not homophobic at all (there's a great coming out episode plus i think some lesbian action on the horizon), but it is mostly white people. it's funny, a black vampire comes to town and totally comments on that and then after that all these people of color start popping up around town and in the story, so i guess they were trying to fix it. i was thinking about the white privilege article and the part about seeing your race represented in pop culture.
characters are in and out and all that. lots of people and vampires die. there's a vampire couple, spike and drusilla, that are batty and funny and really in love. spike is british, punkish and drusilla is goth and spooky and has visions and dolls that she blindfolds when they're naughty. how could a doll do something naughty? oh drusilla, yr so strange! they have a great lair with all the dead roses and big pilar candles you'd expect.
what else? oh, the supernerd friend of the slayer is getting into witchcraft and evil lately. i don't know what's gonna happen but i feel like they're laying the groundwork for her to get really evil, so i'm excited. there was an episode with an alternate universe where the slayer was never born so the world was overrun by vampires and instead of being the supernerd friend, the supernerd friend becomes a hot vampire dominatrix and calls people her "puppies." she always wants to play with the puppies. the crew of the slayer (who is so great, too!) also includes one dorky dude, one bitchy snob girl who the dork dates and she is great and redeems herself a lot by coming through in situations where you'd expect her to be dumb and a flake but is less forgiving about the aforemtioned makeout with the werewolf's gf, plus the librarian! the stuffy, british, tweed-wearing librarian! i do totally love all the stabs at the librarian and his stuffyness, but he has a totally dark past which i also love.
have i gushed enough? is this hiatus over already? why can't xander watch tv quicker?
