the afternoon movie watching time

so, we talked a bit through big fish this afternoon. i agree that it's only ok. my memory of it was really positive but in reality it is thin and yeah, alright. maybe it's not as committed as his earlier movies. i'm not sure what happened. maybe lack of committmenet is a major world problem. what does that even mean?
i wanted red and siamese twins and silly stories and that's what i got. also the girl who plays edith piaf is billy crudup's wife and roy from the office is ewan mcgregor's enemy. jessica lange is so pretty. she smiles a lot and is very kind and happy in this movie. albert finney is an excellent storyteller and crudup is a good cynic and the end where crudup spins his own tall tale for his father about his father's death is so tearjerking, it jerked the tears right onto my eyes and all down my face. it hurt to cry too much so i reminded myself that i could store this memory for when i needed a good cry and not when it would make my throat and ear feel more like enemies of mine. so, the movie was limp but ending was strong.

before that, earlier, i watched a documentary called the sheild around the k or something about k records. it was mostly a documentary about the founder calvin johnson, his band beat happening and the 80s in olympia. it was cool to learn that a group of people became friends because of community radio. i like beat happening so it was nice to see lots of live footage of them too. but overall it wasn't very informative about the record label itself and it wasn't very compelling. for instance, i turned it off with only ten minutes to go and i feel no need to go back to it. calvin johnson has such a great deep voice. i love it.
